You’ve Finished Your Chiropractic Treatment Plan! Now What?

Most chiropractic patients visit the chiropractor for a specific purpose. Perhaps they experienced pain after a car accident. Maybe they developed pain after years of playing sports. Or, a problem like scoliosis eventually got too painful to bear.

After the initial visit, a chiropractor will create a treatment plan for you with the ultimate goal of alleviating your pain. The goal is usually solving or improving the problem that’s causing you pain to begin with. This may include chiropractic adjustments; massage; personal therapy; at-home treatment; lifestyle changes; and more. But eventually, this chiropractic treatment plan will come to an end. What then?

When your chiropractic schedule with Advanced Spine and Posture is over and your pain has been successfully alleviated, you may think you’re able to resume life as usual and never see the inside of the chiropractic office again. Your chiropractor may have different ideas.

Considerations After Chiropractic Treatment

In many cases, aspects of your chiropractic treatment plan should not stop after your official chiropractic schedule has is done. What is important to remember about the spine is that it endures constant stress. Walking, running, standing, sitting, and stretching every day, your spine supports you and your movements.

Thus, your spine can eventually be weakened and become painful in the future. To mitigate these problems, you’ll want to continue implementing spine-healthy tactics into your everyday life.

You may not need to visit a chiropractor every two weeks for an adjustment, but you may want to maintain some of the habits you picked up throughout your treatment plan.

For example, people with former back pain problems will want to continue to stretch and exercise in the ways they were taught during chiropractic care, to continue strengthening and mobilizing the back muscles and tissues. Continuing to do these things may help reduce your risk for future problems.

Lifestyle habits; including refraining from smoking and drinking; eating well; and standing and sitting with proper posture are also important things you should carry on with after chiropractic. Picking bad habits up immediately after completing chiropractic care may revert your progress and re-introduce pain.

The Importance Of Ongoing Chiropractic Care

In addition to lifestyle habits and exercise, your chiropractor will likely recommend you return for adjustments on an ongoing basis in the future. These adjustments are typically much less frequent than they were during your treatment plan, but they can be just as important.

As noted above, the spine is constantly experiencing stress, and it can fall out of alignment over time. A once-monthly adjustment may be instrumental in achieving long-term comfort and strength.

Remember, just because you’ve finished with your chiropractic treatment plan does not mean you will never need chiropractic care again. By implementing the tools and resources you’ve been given throughout your chiropractic schedule; both at home and during regular professional treatments; you may set yourself up for lifelong spinal health and help prevent future problems from arising.
