Laser Therapy & UltraSound Modalities

What does it do?

Laser therapy and UltraSound Therapy can help reduce pain and inflammation while increasing the rate of healing and tissue repair.

Is it safe?

Lasers and ultrasound have been around for a while now, they are marketed to treat a host of ailments. We use this technology to relieve pain and supercharge your healing rate. These technologies deliver energy to deep tissues that the body can use to heal and rebuild at an accelerated rate. We utilize class IV heat producing lasers which are more powerful than class III or “cold” lasers. Our lasers are not dangerous like James Bond butting through metal but they are powerful enough to cause a burn if not utilized properly. In the hands of our trained therapists utilizing the appropriate safety measures the risk and side effects are negligible.

Fun Fact

Laser therapy was discovered by Hungarian physician and surgeon Endre Mester over 60 years ago.

Why Do we do it?

We choose a class IV laser because it can deliver more energy and do more healing of the tissues compared to other lasers.

How does it work?

In the human body red blood cells carry oxygen from your lungs to the rest of your tissues. Oxygen is a vital ingredient used to produce energy inside each cell for it to use to perform essential functions of life. For a muscle cell that might mean contracting and lifting something. In a nerve cell that might mean transmitting vital information to your brain such as that stove is hot, you should move your hand. It also allows the body to use energy to create new cells, to grow, and to repair itself.

As Red Blood Cells travel to an injured area the energy from this technology causes them to drop off more oxygen to the injured tissue than normal. The energy also stimulates the mitochondria which is the cells powerhouse. The combination of more oxygen to burn and a supercharged powerhouse cause the body to produce repair blocks even faster than it normally would. It moves more damaged material out of the way and replaces it with new material as if you had an advanced healing factor.

What is the difference between ultrasound and laser therapy?

We also utilize therapeutic ultrasound machines which act upon the body in the same manner. Lasers use light waves to deliver energy, ultrasound uses sound waves to deliver energy. Depending on your skin type, the presence of tattoos, or metal implants one technology may be more appropriate for you than another. Our trained providers will make recommendations based upon what they think is best for you.
