Custom Foot Orthotics

Do you get problems with foot, ankle, knee or hip pain? If so, you are not alone. Often after we do an initial exam and X-rays we find one of the primary factors affecting a patient’s low back may also be related to the feet, or legs. For example, you have probably heard of flat feet. This loss of the arch of the feet can lead to increased impact on the feet, legs, and hips while walking. This is a very common condition. If you have flat feet and have seen other providers and your low back pain feels better, but always comes back repeatedly, it may be due to flat feet. If this sounds familiar, you may benefit from wearing custom foot orthotics. This can make the beneficial effects of chiropractic adjustments and physical therapy last much longer.

Fun Fact

In each foot there are 26 bones, 33 joints, 19 muscles, 10 tendons, and 107 ligaments.

Structural problems with the feet can cause:

Another common problem that we see on X-Rays is many people have one leg shorter than the other. An anatomic leg length inequality (ALLI) or what is commonly called a short leg, just means one leg didn’t grow to be the same length as the other. This can be quite common. Research has shown that ALLI can lead to increased incidence of low back pain, hip pain and knee pain. At Advanced Spine & Posture, we can have custom foot orthotics designed with one built thicker than the other to account for the short leg. This allows a person to walk around with not only added support of the arch, but also with the knees, hips and back more level and even. Again, this greatly aids the effectiveness of corrective chiropractic care.
